Meet the Team- Kianna
Everyone Meet Kianna, our dedicated floor manager of the Bowen clinic. A proud Dysart local, Kianna is fueled by a deep passion for animal care and education. With over five years of experience as a vet nurse across the Whitsunday region, she joined Greater Whitsunday Vet Services in 2023. By late 2024, she seamlessly transitioned into her current management role, where she has made a remarkable impact. Kianna has a deep passion for large animal reproduction, offering valuable expertise in cattle pregnancy testing and AI programs. Her knowledge comes not only from her professional experience but also from hands-on involvement, giving her a unique and well-rounded perspective.
Outside of work, you can find Kianna rounding up cattle on her property, playing with on her dog, Macey, or cheering on her partner, Beau, at bull riding competitions—cowboy hat in tow.
Make sure you say Hello to Kianna when you see her!

We absolutely love you Kiki, our very own super star!! ✨🤍
Hi Kianna
Pet of the week: Peanut
Peanut is a beautiful gelding that we got the pleasure of seeing/treating recently. Peanut was diagnosed with an Eye ulcer in his right eye. 🥜
Eye ulcer's are very common in horses especially in the wet season, this being because the grass is quite long, once they put their head down to eat grass, a piece of grass spears them in the eye and causes an ulcer. Eye ulcers need to be treated at least 4-6 times a day for a good recovery and needs to be watched very closely as they can go bad very quickly. 🐴
How to reduce this injury in your horse?
A fly mask (like the picture) should be placed on your horse at all times when not being ridden. 😷
If you notice your horse with a sore eye, call us immediately on 07 4786 1010 before it's too late

3 Day sickness (or Bovine ephemeral fever) is a viral condition that cattle in our region are prone to. Despite the name- it does not always last 3 days! It is seen more commonly in our area due to our high population of mosquitoes- which is how this virus spreads. Therefore, after big rains is when we see the most cases.
It is characterised by a high temperature which can lead to other issues such as a decrease in milk production, abortion, drooling, not eating/drinking, muscle soreness and joint swelling. Often producers notice a wobbly or stiff hindlimb lameness initially, which then progresses to the animal not wanting to stand at all. These animals are also prone to developing pneumonia as they cannot swallow correctly.
Thankfully, after contracting the virus, cows often have quite a good immunity for a number of years following. If you wish to avoid this disease entirely (us too!) there is a vaccine available to give long lasting protection. All it requires is 2 doses a month apart, then annually going forwards.
Give us a call on 07 4786 1010 to learn more or book your cattle in for vaccinations.
